It’s all fun and games at first. Usually, you have a positive experience when consuming cannabis. Fear not: You do not need to explode into full-blown panic. You will be fine. You will be sober again in a matter of hours.

So how can you begin to stop feeling high? You have a couple of options.

In this post, we’re going to provide some answers to that question. We’ll cover several topics, including how to sober up from being too high and how to get weed out of your system.

Greening Out: What Happens When You Feel Too High?

What exactly happens to your body when you get too high, also known as “Greening Out?” The culprit appears to be THC. That’s right: The exact same compound that gives cannabis its lovely psychoactive properties may also lead to Greening Out.

As for Greening Out, what exactly is going on? THC triggers Greening Out, which can cause heightened anxiety in newer, inexperienced, or really any cannabis users who consume more than they are used to. THC can trigger this sensation. Although it’s most common in newer users, it can also occur in experienced enthusiasts with high enough doses of THC.

Finally, THC may not be the only substance that can influence a Green Out. Thanks to a phenomenon called the “Entourage Effect,” cannabinoids and terpenes, such as myrcene and humulene, found in cannabis plants may be able to enhance THC’s effects. The end result could be a more powerful Green Out.

Sober Up: How to Stop Being High

As a result of THC’s lingering presence in your system, you’re not going to sober up by getting rid of the THC inside you. Don’t worry, though. You can calm the effects while THC is still in your system. Focus on helpful tips for relieving the psychoactive effects of cannabis themselves. Below, we’ll cover a few ways you may find relief.

Chill Out

There’s one important thing to remember when Greening Out: It’s gonna be okay. While you may feel anxious or scared, you’re going to be fine. This sensation will fade. To that end, you may be able to employ other cannabinoids. CBD, for example, may be able to reduce the anxiety brought on by a Green Out. Some cannabis terpenes, such as myrcene, may be able to perform the same function.

Distract Yourself

You can distract yourself during a Green Out in several ways. For example, you could put on one of your favorite TV shows or movies (stick with something light and funny). Or, take a walk outside to get some fresh air and clear your head. Games or your favorite music can be a helpful distraction, too. Many people find that moving meditation or light yoga can be soothing, as well.

Eat a Snack

Getting some food in your stomach may be able to help you overcome a Green Out more speedily. Additionally, some foods may actually counteract the effects of THC. For example, pine nuts develop a terpene called pinene (which also occurs in cannabis) that appears to lessen THC’s psychoactive powers. You can thank the Entourage Effect for that, too.

How to Get Weed Out of Your System: Is it Possible?

Not exactly. Though you’ll only feel the effects of THC for a matter of hours and it is possible to find ways to relax and lessen the psychoactive effects of THC if you aren’t enjoying the experience as much as usual, you won’t really be able to speed up getting it out of your system.

That’s because THC dissolves quickly in your body’s fat. Once THC is in your system, it sets up shop and can take a month or longer before a regular user’s body metabolizes the cannabis completely. Fortunately, just because you have THC in your system doesn’t mean you’ll feel high. You won’t want THC in your system if you need to take a drug test, but you otherwise won’t know it is there or experience any effects as the THC is metabolized over time.

Hopefully, this has helped shed some light on Greening Out and how to stop being high when you want to soothe the feeling.
