Are you kinda done with being stuck at home? We kinda sorta definitely are! But while Coronavirus / COVID-19 has upended so many things about our daily lives, there’s a silver lining. Nature is most definitely NOT closed for business. And after a period of temporary closures, most Des Moines parks are open and waiting for you to visit them.
So if you’re craving some green to go along with your green, check out our list of favorite Des Moines parks and woodsy trails where you stretch out, chill out, and let your worries drop away….
Our Favorite Des Moines Parks
Saltwater State Park
25205 8th Pl S
Des Moines, WA 98198
We’ve written about it before, but this 88-acre jewel always deserves repeat visits. One of the region’s best-loved green spaces, Saltwater contains pristine trails, campsites, and even volleyball courts and an underwater reef for divers to explore. Do check the park’s website for the most current information; it’s highly probable that visitors will be limited in number and overnight camping suspended in 2020.
Woodmont Park
1115 Woodmont Beach Rd S
Des Moines, WA 98198
There’s not much by way of amenities at this shady little plot of forest, but you’ll be rewarded by the hush of the towering evergreens, the wet kiss of lichens and ferns, and even tantalizing views of Puget Sounds to the west. It’s one of Des Moines’ many hidden treasures that remind us why we love living and working here!
Dash Point State Park
5700 SW Dash Point Rd
Federal Way, WA 98023
Another perennial favorite, Dash Point contains many little tastes of what makes the Pacific Northwest so appealing. In addition to the lovely trails that ramble all through the park grounds, there’s plenty of beach and boat access, and it’s likely you’ll have multiple opportunities to spot migratory and resident birds, crabs, starfish, and other residents of the park. Remember to check the park’s website before you visit. Currently, we’re expecting that a limited number of visitors will be permitted in the park for the summer 2020 season and potentially beyond.
Marvista Park
19990 4th Ave SW
Normandy Park, WA 98166
This sweet little 5-acre city park offers an enchanting garden, a covered gazebo, and gentle trails winding through the grass. It may not be the full-on primeval forest experience, but if you’re feeling blue and needing a hit of green, Marvista may just be your spot.
The Des Moines Creek Trail
Des Moines, WA
Another convenient spot to drop in to nature when time is tight, the Creek Trail is another of Des Moines’ hidden gems. If it lacks the awe-inspiring vistas and drama of the region’s favorite state parks, we still love it. Spend an hour walking the gentle curves of the paved trail and we guarantee your head—and your heart—will feel at peace again.
Before hitting the trails, use our online dispensary menu to place an order from our Des Moines dispensary. That way, it’ll be waiting for you when you’re done!
