Stardawg Strain Review: A Modern Twist on an Old Classic

Everyone loves experiencing a modern twist on an old classic. And that’s exactly what’s happened with Stardawg. This strain (which also goes by the name “Star Dog”) takes one of the most notorious strains of the 1980s and modernizes it with something new. In this post, we’re going to take a look at what makes this one of the best hybrid strains at Greenside Rec.

Stardawg Strain Review: Origins, Genetics, Effects, and More

If you want to truly understand a strain, you need to start in one place: its genetics. Stardawg is no different from any other strain in this regard. Knowing its genetic line will make it easier to understand Star Dog’s effects, terpene profile, and more.

A cross between two hybrids, Chemdawg 4 and Tres Dawg, the Stardawg strain is itself a fairly balanced hybrid. Chemdawg is one of the most famous strains of generations past. According to legend, Chemdawg started when a hippie found some seeds in a bag of cannabis he bought at a Grateful Dead concert in Indiana. Countless breeders have made use of Chemdawg’s genetics since then, culminating in one of man’s newest best friends: Stardawg.

Effects of Star Dog: One of the Best Hybrid Strains

Stardawg gets its name from the sheath of trichome crystals that encapsulate its lime green buds. These crystals twinkle and glisten, just like stars in the night sky.

But trichomes aren’t there to just look pretty. They contain the highest concentration of THC anywhere in a cannabis plant. And thanks to that shimmering sheath of trichome crystals, Star Dog has some consistently high THC levels. It nearly always tests above 20% THC, and in some instances, it can reach up to 25%.

That high THC content gives Star Dog a high level of potency. As a fairly balanced hybrid, you may experience pleasant, uplifting, and energizing effects. This strain has a reputation for triggering a powerful rush of euphoria, making socializing easy and turning every joke into the funniest thing you’ve ever heard.

Terpene Profile: Heavy Caryophyllene Influence

Other contributing factors to Stardawg’s effects can be found in its terpene profile. Caryophyllene is the most abundant terpene in this strain, making it an important piece of the effects puzzle. For example, some research shows that the caryophyllene terpene may be able to reduce chronic inflammation.

While terpenes definitely contribute to a strain’s effects and benefits, that’s not their only job. Terpenes are well-known for their ability to convey taste and scents. And that’s a big role for terpenes when it comes to the Stardawg strain, too.

Specifically, Stardawg has a sharp scent that combines notes of pine with a heavy dose of diesel fuel. You’ll notice distinct citrus tones as well. Although caryophyllene is this strain’s main terpene, it doesn’t have a “peppery” smell per se. Instead, the caryophyllene terpene lends its overall sharp spiciness to empower other, more forward tones, thereby creating a nuanced and complex scent profile that makes this strain special.
