Later, the High Line Road—today’s tree-lined Des Moines Memorial Drive—became a major thoroughfare between Seattle and Tacoma. By the time SeaTac Airport opened in 1949, it was clear that the region was well on its way to becoming a major source of technological and industrial innovation.
